Jordan Datlow Needs An Heir

Filed under I'm Surrounded By Idiots > 5th Generation on February 27, 2006

It's been a very long time since I blogged about the Datlows so I'll try to bring everyone up to speed before jumping in.

Jordan Datlow married a lovely dormie named Flora. Together they adopted (well, he adopted) four lovely children to help fulfill Flora's liftetime want: Rinaldo, Gawain, Nathaniel and Lainey. The last two children were had biologically by Jordan thanks to ISBI's wonderful Tombstone of L&D rule. (They never do specify which spouse has to be impregnated...)

I named them Jasmine and Jacqueline (Jasmine is to the right) and one of them is to be the fifth generation heir, though I haven't decided which one yet. I would like you people to choose for me because, frankly, it's been so long since I've blogged them, and even longer since I've played them, that I would really like to get on with it.

ISBI: Datlow - 5th Generation

This is just to showcase a very annoying tendency of autonomous Sims. Yes, I know, one of many. This one is most likely unfixable. Jasmine is blocking Flora from leaving the table to clean up. At the same time Flora is preventing Jasmine from completeing the action in her que as she is "busy" cleaning up, and so they are a stand still until Jasmine eventually gives up on her mother and wanders off.

ISBI: Datlow - 5th Generation

Flora loves Jacqueline just as much as she loves Jasmine, she is constantly interacting with the toddler. It would also appear that Jasmine also loves her sister just as dearly, the first shot in this entry is the first time in this challenge a child has autonomously interacted with a toddler. Unfortinately, with all the attention from her mother and sister, Jacqueline isn't given much time for bathroom breaks.

ISBI: Datlow - 5th Generation

I had Jordan teach her to walk in hopes that that would speed things up for her. I try to fulfill a power want to Learn to Walk, Talk, Go Potty, each day of a toddlers lifespan. Improves the chances of them growing up well.

ISBI: Datlow - 5th Generation

This is a new interaction I had never seen before. Flora must have been in a bit of a foul mood, the option to "Cheer Up" came up when I sent Jordan to romance her. So I had him do that and she was much more amenable to his advances then she usually is at that time of morning. Yes Flora has actually established a pattern for herself, and there is this stretch before breakfast and shower where you don't interact with her or you risk rejection. She perks up considerably later in the morning though after a shower and some tv time.

Here, Jasmine and Jacqueline (now a child) have a short pillow fight in the study right after school. You can hardly see it for the green clothes but they both have stink clouds about them. Datlow children have always ranked fun over hygiene.

Jasmine finally becomes a teen, I roll Popularity. It's actually a decent aspiration now that I know about the Sell a Masterpiece want. When I started my first Sims challenge I had a string of Popularity Sims and I bemoaned the fact. Now, it's actually something I look forward to. Jasmine has maxed her own creativity, and I will be sure to have several masterpieces waiting for her, if she is the chosen heir, when it's time to pass on the torch.

ISBI: Datlow - 5th Generation

Jacqueline, on the other hand, became a Knowledge Sim. Also a good aspiration as it is easy to put them in Platinum by having your torch bearer help them work on skills. I could have her in Platinum by the time the torch was ready to be passed on, if she is chosen to be the heir anyway.

Here Flora and Jacqueline autonomously decide that it is time for a long soak in the hot tub after a hard day of loungeing around and making a nuisance of themselves. I have Jordan join them because his social is low. His wife splashes him. It's kind of a sweet family moment, actually.

ISBI: Datlow - 5th Generation

Once Jacqueline wanders off to bed I have Jordan and Flora take advantage of the semi-private courtyard... Hey, I just wanted to see the video!

ISBI: Datlow - 5th Generation

Why is it that Sims insist on sitting at desks, randomly? This would have to be one of the odder autonomous patterns in the game.

ISBI: Datlow - 5th Generation

Meanwhile I was playing the four older kids through college. I had them get a place, which was a mistake as they could barely afford it and there was four of them needing beds, food space, toilets, showers, etc. A dorm at least would insure that regular meals were being served, on top of being able to accomodate them in other areas. They muddled through and I concentrated on getting all of them spouses. After graduation I had them all move into one house, invite over their intended, and marry them on the spot. This is to meet Flora's lifetime want, of course. I had them all marry professors because they start with a relationship boost and romancing them helped improve their grades. Besides, with the Datlow's, it's almost become a tradition.

Nathaniel married Prof. Asia.

Lainey married Prof. Theseus.

Gawain married Prof. Acantha.

And, I was going to have Rinaldo and Prof. Pluto pose but they ended up getting a bit wrapped up in each other which I decided worked just as well.

Back to my heirs, though. Looking through my notes as to what my guesses were for personality...

Jacqueline has little bubbles follow her around when she cleans while Jasmine dosen't. Though Jasmine does not appear to be a complete pig when eating, nor have too much trouble cleaning up after herself.

Jacqueline wears pjs to bed while Jasmine still wears undies as all born Datlows have done since second generation. This could be a sign that Drizella's genes are breeding out with Jacqueline or that she is just very much her mother's daughter, as Flora also wears pjs to bed.

Jasmine ran everywhere as a child, not so much as a teen but it was a tad annoying as a child. She would run to meals, run to the bathroom, run to the chess table, she was constantly running. She also picked up Body skill points like it was nobodies business.

Jasmine also played chess by herself a lot, just as Lainey did. She also whines if I ask her to join the family in front of the tv.

These sisters seem to not pick on each other as much as their grandmother Fatima and great-aunt Karimah did. Might I hope for some niceness in the family, for once? Maybe I have just kept them too busy.

ISBI: Datlow - 5th Generation

Jasmine has the full set of skill points needed for her Lifetime Want and for the family career (Natural Science). Jacqueline has no Charisma points yet as I was planning on saving earning those until just before it was time to hand over the torch, so that I could put her in Platinum. She has all the other skills she needs for Lifetime Want and family career.

They seem fairly evenly balanced, which should I choose? Please let me know, I miss playing my Datlows and after playing the Uni Legacy for a week I'm ready to play a family I have no real control over for awhile.

Great, I was hoping there would be a Datlow update soon. I just love this family for some reason. Maybe it's the approach you've taken. After reading your comparison, my personal opinion is Jasmine. I don't know where down the line I came to that decision, but I did. :-)

Then I'll be contrary and vote Jacqueline. ;-) Knowledge Sims are my favorites.

I think I can explain the "Sims sitting at desks" phenomenon.
See, programmers are naturally attracted to desks. Whenever someone programs anything in any language at all--C++, Java, PHP, you name it--it ups their magnetism torwards desks. Every five minutes spent coding means another happy desk. I haven't programmed anything in months, and do you see me sticking to desks? I think not!
So, since the people who programmed TS2's autonomy were programmers, they thought it perfectly natural for Sims to love desks, too.
On another note: Wow. I really like the skintones and eyecolors you're using. No idea whether or not you put them in as defaults, but they look really nice.

It sounds like Jasmine has more in the way of personality points; but I, like Annette, have a soft spot for Knowledge Sims.
Still, my vote's on Jasmine. (sorry, Jacqueline. It'll all be okay.)

My vote goes to Jasmine. She's my namesake and her personality seems to better. X3

I don't know why, butI am going to vote for Jasmine. I Hope she gets a nice aspiration. So Jasmine

Oopsie! She's popularity isn't she?

Yes, Jasmine is popularity and since Jasmine has the most votes she is going to be the next heir! Expect an update within the next few days.
