Echo Windling's Memoirs

Filed under Legacy Challenge > 9th Generation on January 01, 2006

It's seems so sad, to be the last person chosen to write in the Windling Chronicles. Sure there will be a few letters to round out the story of the final generation, but this will be the last diary entry, and it just makes me so sad, it means that our legacy is now ending.

Enough of my being morose, though. Little Andromeda, my half-sister and the "last baby" to grow up at Windling Gables is now the "last toddler". She, unfortunately, seems to get on everyone's nerves, even mine sometimes, I must admit. It looks like we were ready to have the "last toddler" be Harmonia. The relief we felt at shutting up the nursery was quite short-lived.

Legacy Challenge

Now that I am a teenager, and the heir apparent, I have found myself taking on more responsibilities. Taking care of Andromeda, preparing meals, and working on learning new skills for my future career are just a few, I also spend a lot of time painting in the south wing with my mother and older sisters.

Legacy Challenge

I'm not sure how my older sisters, Gretchen, Abbey and Kimberly (not to mention everyone else!) feel about me inheriting Windling Gables, but I think I know how Harmonia feels. She was so busy telling us about all the cute boys in her class I'm not sure she even heard us when we told her the first time. When I interrupted her to tell her again about our parents' decision she just rolled her eyes at me and kept on with the boy talk. I guess she dosen't mind, then.

Legacy Challenge

I was actually a bit suprised to find Papa Alec in the nursery more often then not through most of Andromeda's toddlerhood. It made me just a tiny bit jealous. Papa Alec has given only a cursory amount of attention to each of his ten children. You can't blame him really, I suppose. Most of them were out of the house and living with an older relative by the time he married Mama Danae. But, even with his own two children, he still only popped into the nursery every once and a while. With Andromeda it seems to be different, though.

Legacy Challenge

But, enough about that. Andromeda wasn't the only one growing up around here. My sister Harmonia had become a teenager and she is still just as boy crazy as she was as a child. I think she worries Mama Danae a bit, actually.

Legacy Challenge

Andromeda was soon, well, not out of the nursery, as there were no other rooms left for Andromeda to sleep in, but she was able to take care of herself, for the most part at least. She was a very sloppy child though and quite lazy. I don't understand why Papa Alec dotes on her so.

Legacy Challenge

An army of painters, that's what Abbey calls us. Mama Danae has us working like a production line churning out painting after painting. We usually earn several thousand simolineons a day working like this, but I'm not sure how long we can keep this up. It feels like we are doing one last push to get the family funds up as high as possible. It's very exhausting!

Legacy Challenge

Before we knew it we were celebrating Papa Alec's birthday. It looks like he is finally joining Mama Danae in elderhood. Unfortunately his workload certaintly hasn't cut down any.

Legacy Challenge

When he's not painting with us he's calling up old friends and inviting them over to have a chat on the bench out front. I don't know how he maintains the number of friendships that he has. It would wear me out!

Legacy Challenge

Most of his friends are Windling's at least which makes things a little easier. All of us seem to maintain a high interest in culture and the paranormal for some reason. So there's always something to talk about.

Legacy Challenge

With out new rigerous schedules, we rise at the crack of dawn for breakfast before hitting the easels. Or, in Andromeda's case, the books in the north wing. On weekends we work until supper. Weekdays, only until work or school, but we are right back to work again the moment we get home. Mama Danae lets us break after supper though, so that we can do things we want for a change.

Legacy Challenge

The days became weeks and the weeks months, I don't think our family can maintain this pace for much longer. Thankfully Mama Danae seemed to sense this and gave us the day off to throw a birthday party for little Andromeda.

Legacy Challenge

She became a teenager with a hunger for knowledge, much like our older sisters. She no longer lives in the nursery, as she now lives in the north wing, exclusively.

Legacy Challenge

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays the majority of the household heads off to work. Papa Alec, Mama Danae, Gretchen, Abbey and Kimberly pile into a tiny sports car and go be Hall of Famers for several hours. I'm not sure what they're in the hall of fame for but they sure do make a lot of money doing it!

Legacy Challenge

Meanwhile I had a job to do myself: find a husband! There is this really nice repairman named Lee something-or-other that I have taken a shine to, even if he is quite a bit older then me. I decided to start buttering him up a little for when I got older. Yeah, sounds crazy, but the entire household was crazy at that point!

Legacy Challenge

The years passed and when my birthday came around we thew a grand party. It was the last birthday party at Windling Gables. After the party my sister Abbey packed her bags to move out, taking Harmonia and Andromeda with her.

Legacy Challenge

Now I was an adult and had officially inherited Windling Gables. First thing I did was call up Lee, now a close friend of mine, I wanted to get just a little closer.

Legacy Challenge

Yes, I guess I jumped the gun a little by getting pregnant before actually getting married to Lee but I felt it was worth it.

Legacy Challenge

I wasn't the only one ready to bring in tenth generation. But I think I will let those letters speak for themselves.

Game Play Note: Just one more post and then this story is complete! Then I promise to update my scorecard and post that Legacy Challenge Guide I've been working on. As a side note, does anyone else think Echo Windling bears a slight resemblace to Jennifer Lopez, or is that just me? Mouse over her name to see her portrait, I know she dosen't in the in-game shots from the laptop. I hope everyone has/had a very happy new year!

Wow, seems like a huge chapter in the book of 'somnium' is coming to a close here. Kinda sad actually that we won't be hearing much more about this bunch. I suppose they're pretty bugged at this point though, hmm? Great update bitsy! and you've been posting some cool houses you've built too! keep up the good work.
