Warren Windling's Little Black Book
(The server successfully posted the entry, but posted an older version of it and with only half of the images. This Future Posting thing needs some further testing I think. Sorry for the confusion.)
Looks like my free ride is over. I was just approached by my little brother Agenor and was told that it's now my turn to write in the Windling Chronicles. Go me.
It's great that my brother Agenor and his wife Cassidy let me hang out at their place, but I wish that they just let me do my thing like I let them do theirs. It's not easy making thirty people fall in love with you, you know! My nieces, Maia and Danae, leave me be at least. Danae thinks what I do is pretty funny, has ever since she was little. Nice to know I'm so amusing.
It's actually pretty easy to find new people to love because someone new walks by every day at 10:30. Which is cool, and makes my job loads easier. It has gotten even better since Danae finally became an adult because now only adults are walking by, no more lovesick teenagers hanging off me. I mean, it's bad enough that both the maid and the mailcarrier swoon when they drop by, but does the teenage boy have to as well? Who said a life of Romance was easy, I'd like to know.
Danae went through with that adoption thing she had going on. Got herself a kid now. He's pretty sharp, his name is Weldon and he is insanely curious about me and what I do. That kid is precocious, let me tell you. With his dark skin and bright green eyes he is going to be a real heartbreaker when he grows up.
Danae tries to shelter the kid, but Cassidy is having none of it. She thinks her daughter should be up front with Weldon about his status in the family, due to the fact that he's adopted. He got a little upset when he found out he could never be an heir, once Maia explained to him what an heir was, but I sat down and talked to him a bit, being adopted myself I knew what he was going through. Got him cheered right back up. See? The sacrifices I make for this family.
After I talked to him Agenor came out of his refuge in the north hall and invited his grandson in with him. Turns out the two have something in common. Namely, the piano. Just wait until the ladies get an earful of this, there will be no stopping him.
Not even a year has gone by and already Danae has herself another kid. This one by the name of Robin. She's a sassy little lass too. Helped me out of a bit of a tight spot when Karen Gast came over before I was done romancing Sandy Bruty in the study. Robin kept Karen occupied long enough for me to sneak Sandy out the back. I owe the girl one and she knows it.
In fact, you know who the girl reminds me of? Cassidy! Same hair, eyes, skin tone, face... if I didn't know the girl was adopted, I would have sworn she was one of Cassidy's kids. How bizzare.
Another year, another kid, this will be the last one for awhile though, according to Danae. Something about a Housing Authority... Anyway, this one is named Catalina, which is a weird name though I suppose not as off the wall as Weldon. She's a quiet studious little girl and she would be perfectly happy spending the rest of her life in the north wing. No kidding. What kind of kid wants to learn stuff? I mean, seriously?
Danae didn't have the heart to break the news to Robin and Catalina about their non-entity status so her mother and sister did it for her. Catalina didn't seem to concerned by it. She said she wouldn't feel it was right to inherit a family she hadn't joined until she was five anyway. Something about it being too big of a burden. Well duh. I wouldn't have wanted to inherit this mad house, not that I was given the choice, but still. That's one smart girl Danae has there.
Looks like Danae finally snagged her man. I found her using my patented Warren Romance moves on Alec, the maid. Not only my moves, but in my territory too. It worked, of course, and now she's got herself a man.
They even got engaged. Way to go Danae. That kind of commitment may not be my kind of thing, but it's good to see my niece so happy. Marriage won't be for quite a while though according to Danae. Apparently, she has plans.
And here I thought that Robin completely forgot about the fact that I owed her one. She called in the favor big time when she asked me to help her with her out with her homework. Like I remember stuff from back in grade school. I think I had a lot harder time of it then she did. Anyway, the work paid off because both her and Catalina (Weldon already had outstanding grades) came home with great grades making their mom proud.
Looks like Weldon is ready to become a teen. We threw a little family-only shindig and celebrated it in the kitchen, like we Windlings always do.
I actually felt myself grow a little teary-eyed when I heard that he wanted to follow in my footsteps in the ways of Romance. That kid really makes me proud.
He didn't waste any time either. The very next year he had himself a boyfriend. Actually I'm pretty sure that Ricky has kissed at least one teen in every generation of this family. Isn't that so weird? This family gives me the creeps sometimes.
Another year has passed and I feel it's my time to finally grow up. Yeah, I've been putting it off, denying my age and refusing to grow up, but this time I think I'm ready. Besides I'm sure there are some ladies out there who want a more "mature" man. I think it's time to find those women and show them a little Warren-brand love.
Of course, I wasn't the only one with a birthday that year. Robin grew up too, finally becoming a teen. No suprise that her life path ended up being the same as Cassidy's. If the girl's smart enough to blackmail me into helping her with her homework she is certainly smart enough to learn everything about everything.
When Catalina became a teen no one was suprised to discover that she chose a path of Knowledge for herself. Now both Catalina and Robin have taken to living in the north wing with Agenor, attempting to cram in as much knowledge as they can. It's like they think they are leaving soon or something.
Completely unrelated note. Agenor and Cassidy have the most bizzare dreams. I was just peaking in on them when they were taking one of their afternoon naps. Agenor was dreaming about a distant cousin I happen to know he never met and Cassidy was dreaming about a discolored Cool Shades stand. Very odd, really.
So we are at a bit of an impasse at Windling Gables while the teens grow up a little. Until then the north wing is going to be like Grand Central Station. At least it's quiet in the study, as long as I only ever have one lover in it at a time anyway.
