Birthdays and Trash Compactors

Or: What else can possible go wrong? Ok. What else can possibly go wrong? Ok. What el- you know what? Never mind.

When last we left the Windlings my Second Generation heir had grown into a child and her mother Gaia, the family's founder, had grown into an Elder. I really feel like I have cut things close. Cronus, the spare heir, is still only a toddler, and there are still a lot of things in the Sims 2 that I haven't experienced. I just hope nothing happens to these two kids.

Well, Cronus didn't remain a toddler for too terribly long at least. It was finally time for him to grow into a child. Unfortunately things didn't go all that smoothly.

His father Pao brought him to the cake and then helped him blow out the candles... but he never put Cronus down. Cronus stood up in his father's arms and then leaped into the air and became a child. Ok, Maxis, this is really really unnatural.

I could direct Pao one way and the combination Pao/Cronus walked one way. I could direct Cronus another and the combination Pao/Cronus walked another. I was about to pause the game and try directing them in opposite directions at the same time when Pao suddenly laid his son down like he was still a toddler. Right into a visiting townie's skirt. Great placement, Pao.

This is Cronus' "WTF? Look". Actually it was probably a combination of that and that fact that he was exhausted. It was nearly six on his birthday, he was in Platinum, and there just plain wasn't time for him to take a nap before growing up. Poor planning on my part, but then again he was lucky I even remembered his birthday. I seem to be really bad about them.

For example: I completely forgot about Aphrodite's! She wanted to make friends with that annoying girl from school, Chloe, so I had her run to the end of the property lined up a bunch of interactions and then left her alone to concentrate on my other Sims. Then I hear the grow up sound. Oops, sorry Aphrodite!

She looks like a shorter slightly younger version of her mother. I guess I will have to compare the portraits to see if there is anything she inherited from her father.

Because of all the confusion surrounding Cronus' birthday (not to mention Aphrodite's!) I kind of forgot to pay the bills...

Gaia was the only one home and she slept through the whole experience. They took the one set of curtains there in the master bedroom and the trainer potty in the nursery. The un-emptied trainer potty if I remember correctly. Hey, if he wanted it...

The day after that Gaia was once more all alone in the house. So, I had her work on skills towards a promotion. Just before I had her settled down with a book I made sure she called a repairman. The trash compactor that was the family's means of cleaning up for quite a long time (sinks took too long and a dishwasher was too expensive) had broken and it would be cheaper to hire a repairman then to replace it.

bshock1.jpg

The poor, poor man was electrecuted, trash compactors seem to be very diffifult to fix, this isn't the first time I have had this happen to the repairmen I hire. Gaia dosen't even look up from her book.

b-shock2.jpg

He set to work again, determined to fix it.

b-shock3.jpg

With similar results. At that point the trash compactor caught fire. The repairman just brushed past the fireman on the way out throwing a "Everything's fixed!" over his shoulder.

b-shock4.jpg

Once the fireman put out the fire he warned Gaia to be more careful and then left. Gaia's response? She turned a page in her book. She had never once so much as glanced up. Good girl.

The trash compactor was still broken regardless of what the repairman said but when the Windlings rehired him he just came in, looked around, said everything was fine and then left.

I had to replace the trash compactor.

Next time:

-Pao becomes an Elder.
-Cronus becomes a Teen.
-Aphrodite becomes an Adult.
-Aphrodite starts chasing after a boy toy of her own.
-The count down starts as Gaia's life starts winding to a close.

Till then...

Wow, what a horrible time for the Windlings! I can't believe it. Are you still having problems with Cronus. That's a bug I've never seen before. I wonder if it will be fixed when he turns into a teen? We'll have to see, right? I enjoyed this update, no matter how unfortunate it was. Good luck and I hope you don't have any more problems!

I have had this particular bug happen once before. As far as I can tell, a Sim needs time for each of the actions needed to grow a toddler up to a child. Pick the toddler up, take her to the cake, blow out the candles, put the child down. If 6pm rolls around in that time the game will cut to the chase and if this happens when the adult is still holding the child, well the toddler will still stand up right there and do it. Once the adult puts down the child though the combined entity will seperate, no problem. This might also be a particular bug with my system, it is a little slow, I have never and can never watch the first kiss video, the abduction video, the grow up video or anything like that because my laptop can't handle it. This also means my Sims move a little slower then they might normally, perhaps in a normal game a Sim would have put down the kid by the time it was ready to grow up, who knows! Thanks so much for commenting, it's nice to know that someone is enjoying my story. :)

Yeah I had wondered what would happen if I canceled the put down cronus action. Would Pao have gone to school with Cronus? Would Cronus have gone to work with Pao? If one of them had died, would the Grim Reaper have taken both of them? I don't know, and I'm glad I didn't find out!
