Getting It Out There
Mood

Amused
I got the Sims 2 for Christmas, and I can already tell it was well worth its price tag. First, I made a "family" with my fiance, my two brothers, and myself as roomies.
I got my brother Dan a job in the athletic career track and enjoyed seeing him dressed as a team mascot (the entry level position). The team mascot was, of course, a cute fluffy bunny. I still wished I had discovered the camera at that point and gotten a pic.
My other brother Eric was just a teen and so spent a lot of time at school studying, and since he was a Knowledge Sim, a lot of time at home studying as well.
My fiance Matt became the unofficial cook of the family. While everyone else was fighting over counter space and food processor rights he went out to the grill and made hot dogs for everyone. Everything quieted down quite a bit after that.
Unfortunately, once I did discover the camera, my camera skills were really crappy at first. The setting was on medium size and low quality and all of my shots were from way back where I was hovering and spinning around the outside of the house like some deranged fairy-god. So, I won't be posting them, sorry.
Next I created another sim family of just Matt and myself and decided to check out the whole kids thing. What better way to get that out of my system then through a harmless computer game? Using the money cheat I got them a nice place and furnished it and even outfitted a nice room for the tyke halfway between the kitchen and the parent's room.
During the pregnancy I had a hell of a time just keeping Beth alive. If she wasn't starving she was tired, if she wasn't tired she needed a bath. If she didn't need a bath she needed to pee, urgently. She passed out twice and wet herself once. Finally, I just decided to have her stay in bed and only wake when Matt was preparing meals.
Matt meanwhile had all of his wants revolve around flirting with Beth, talking with Beth, kissing Beth, and so on. Something that couldn't be done without risking Beth fainting, wetting herself, or starving to death. So poor Matt suffered through this pregnancy as well.
It was at this time that I discovered the pause button which came in handy when switching between sims and just checking on the overall house.
When the baby was born I was excited, all this work and preperation was about to pay off. She went into labor in their bedroom where she was painting. Why, I have no idea. During one of the few times her needs aren't in the red I let her do what she wants and what she wanted to do was paint a lady in a green dress in a pink room with a skill previously only shown in five-year-olds.
So, the baby was born, without Beth even needing to change out of her clothes. Beth played with the baby for a little bit and I wondered if I would ever get to name the thing and where the hell Matt was. Then Beth laid the baby on the floor and went into labor again. Yep. My first babies ever and they are twins. So with one laying on the floor and one in Beth's arms the pop-up comes up. You have two new baby girls in your family. Yikes.
So, Alexandra and Josephine were born. Or, as I like to call them, Alex and Jo. Horrible unisex names, but I like them both (like I said, get it out of the system).
Where was Matt during all of this? Downstairs chatting with a neighbor named Beatrice or something on the computer. I didn't realize till later that a Sim will do what I tell it to until their needs drop down so low that it overrides the order and they go take care of themselves. I was tring to get his social up, so I had him chat on the computer and just clicked the first name I saw without really caring. So, it isn't really as bad as it sounds.
Once I cancelled the interaction he flew up the stairs, grabbed the baby (Alexandra) off the floor and raced downstairs with her and made her a bottle of milk. I was still in shock and in the crap-I-now-have-twins phase, so I was thankful for Matt's quick thinking. The Beth Sim was tired and kept complaining about it while holding Josephine. She probably would have gone on doing that for awhile before either laying Josephine down or using the (one!) crib to get rid of her and passing out.
Instead, I saved and exited and figured I would go and screw up with someone else's kids. If there is one thing I have read online it's that a baby or a toddler singular is tough to raise in Sims 2. Take it times two? On the first try? I did not want a social worker showing up, so maybe later.
My first adventures were a lot of fun, and now I have (the real) Matt into it too. He created another version of himself and myself and a child named Alexandra (hmm...) and has been having a lot of fun furnishing their home and fulfilling their wants doing it. Which, of course, is why I am writing this on his computer, not mine.
Ah well, maybe I will post some of the better pics I took with the in-game camera and write about a few other Sim related capers to pass the time until I get to play again.
