The Chicago Tribune recenly wrote an article on the number one word queried on the online dictionary. Well, they made it sound like it was the only online dictionary, but there are several and this article just talks about Merriam-Webster online. An admitably popular one.
The most requested online definition this year was "blog" -- a word not even yet officially in the dictionary, Merriam-Webster says.Chicago Tribune - 'Blog' Most Popular Word...

I remember stuggling to define blog, blogging, and what a blogger was back in 2001 for a Current Events speech. I had been blogging for years by that point, but no one in the school had heard of it before.
I think some of the teachers thought I was making it up and was marked down for talking about a trend that didn't "truly affect our everyday lives, nor ever will, as was the point of the assignment".
Right behind "blog" in popularity on Merriam's year-end list were "incumbent" and "electoral." [...] In fourth place was "insurgent," followed by "hurricane," "cicada" and "peloton." The eighth and ninth spots were taken by "partisan" and "sovereignty."Chicago Tribune - 'Blog' Most Popular Word...
I'd like to be re-graded please.
