Midweek Music Meme: What TV show theme song did you like best, even if you didn't care for the show itself?
I really have an unhealthy fascination for theme show songs. I have a sizable collection of them. But, at least a quarter of my collection comes from Dan, so I'm guessing its genetic, so that makes it all right. I can always blame my parents, then.
Some theme songs I like, that were associated with shows I didn't:
+ Johnny Quest: The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest
Sorry, the show was semi interesting, might have been more so if I were a boy, or if the girl was allowed to do more stuff. "Stay back where it's safe, I'll be right back!" Pffft, please.
+ Top Gun: Highway to the Danger Zone
The movie has amazing shots and a great soundtrack but, to be quite honest, it was an Air Force advertisement in disguise. The plot was kind of thin, and the girl in it was treated like crap in my opinion.
(On a side note, I liked the musical introduction that accompanies this song so much it is going to be featured in my next Vacation Musical. This one taking place in Pittsburgh where Dan attends the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. I thought he would appreciate the irony. A long piece though, four minutes, and I am only about a quarter of the way through. Don't expect it up anytime soon.)
+ Friends: I'll Be There For You
I'm sorry, the few times I watched the show it was midly entertaining, but that's it. Definitely not to the point where I would want to rearrange my schedule to watch it, or give it any more thought then I would that annoying chink in the bathroom wall. Well, maybe the chink does get a little more thought.
+ Zelda: The Legend of Zelda
To be honest I have never been truly acquainted with this story. Having owned a Sega system growing up, not a Nintendo one, I am more likely to understand the idiosyncracies of the Sonic-Tails-Knuckles dynamic then the Mario-Luigi(sp?) one. Let alone anything about an elf, no matter how cute. (And, really, he wasn't all that cute in his pixelated form, but I guess being cute and being pixelated don't really correlate.)
+ A-Team: A-Team Theme
This show was more popular with my parents then with me. But for some inexplicable reason, I really like this song. Dunno why.
On the other hand, songs I don't like that go with shows that I do.
+ Ghostbusters: Who You Gonna Call?
While I enjoyed this show when it was on the air (the eighties version, that is) the music is not something I can listen to too many times without going completely insane. That techno screeching thing that accompanies "I ain't 'fraid of no ghost", grates on the nerves after awhile.
+ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: 80's Cartoon Theme
Before I worked with this song to create Turtle Power, I wasn't sure about this fast beat, highly techno song. Afterwards I knew with absolute certainty that I really hate this song.
+ Mulan: Reflections
I find Christina Augleira's voice to be particularly grating. I'm not sure why (does she pinch her nose when she sings to get that nasaly sound or is that natural?) and no one else seems to be affected but me. That, and the fact that the song is just a tad corny, is why the song is on this list.
I was going to list songs and shows that I liked, but I think I'm going to end this post here, before it really gets out of hand.
